We do not have the typical farm story in which we always knew what we wanted on our land once we found it. It took us 2 years to find a piece of land which we both loved and a house that could fit our growing family. Then it was our time to figure out the land part. We were so enthusiastic about clearing the land and getting fencing in place, we still didn't have any animals! Our ag agent told us we needed animals on our land or else no more ag exemption. So we rushed to figure out which would be the easiest/not so pricey animals. Well we found the perfect deal and thus our goat journey was in motion. After starting with several boer, we decided to add 2 full nubians. Everything was proceeding like it should on a normal farm except nobody really explains how much personality goats have especially nubians. Also goats are a lot of work but oh so worth it. After getting our 2 full nubians, we noticed that one had started to develop an udder so we called the previous owners. They let us know she was in with a Nigerian Dwarf buck but they never mated. Well the saying where there is a will there is a way is oh so true with this pairing. Our nubian, Ginger, gave birth to twins. That is how we found Mini Nubians and the rest is history. They are by far our favorite breed. Amazing milking, personality and oh so smart!
We are clean tested herd. We test every January for cae, cl and johne's disease. We provided coccidia prevention, microchipping as well as tattooing. We try to add new bloodlines to always improve our herd. We have started to make goat milk soap and lotion so that will be available soon! Always keep watching for more things we are adding to the farm!
